The S01 project originated from a design exercise at the ESD Madrid (School of Design of Madrid). The objective was the design and construction of prototype a: 1/1 of a lounge chair. The work was focused on the responsible manufacturing process, and sustainability as fundamental design values. It proposed the use of wood, from sustainable forests (FSC), as raw material for manufacturing, considering the lower consumption and maximum material use. The constructive solutions had to be solved with assemblies made in the wood itself, avoiding fittings and superfluous elements.

The project was realized using a piece of American Ash wood measuring 1100 x 250 x 50 mm, making the structure of the chair and 1 square meter of plywood for the seat.

The design focus was put on the use of triangular bar structures. They are very resistant and light, decreasing the possibility of deformation. These structures are used in projects in which maximum efficiency is sought, with a minimum use of material.

In the design of the chair, basic ergonomic parameters were applied: height, width, depth and angle of the seat and backrest, based on the anthropometry studies, which allowed a better user experience. Giving more importance to functionality than to form.
